Ok, so I realize some of what I may have said in my last post may have come across somewhat abrasive. If you read it and take offense to it, I'm sorry. But my main goal is to be honest with people about how their choices affect themselves and those they love and care about. Might seem silly to think that I'm focusing on food - but when I really get rolling on here, you may begin to understand why. I am going to do my best to bring you the most important information out there regarding food. Why food, you ask?
Food, to me, is the most important topic that too many people aren't talking about yet in this country. Food is personal. "What???", you say - yes, I said personal. It really has always been this way since many many decades ago, before it became the agri-business monster it is today. The only difference is, it affects you personally on a different level. Most families used to farm for themselves on some level - they'd have a cow, some chickens, a pig or two, a garden, etc. But over time, our living conditions changed to where we are now - living on small plots of land (most of us anyway) where this really just isn't possible. Unfortunately, with that, went taking care of our food on a personal level. These days, much of the food production in our country is in the hands of a few corporations - and there is a very large problem with that. Their main goal is not the health of our nation or it's people - it's their bottom line. If you believe any differently, then the wool has really been pulled over your eyes. Am I saying there are no good companies out there? Nope. But I am saying that a large majority of what you see and experience in the supermarket today is controlled by large conglomerates who have nothing in mind but this - $$$. Not the health of you or your children. This, to me, is personal on the highest level. We are bombarded with commercials every day to try to coerce our brains into buying most of the stuff that these companies are putting their products into. And 99% of the stuff is junk you most certainly can do without. You won't see commercials for veggies and fruits, nuts and beans, raw milk and cheese, humanely raised meat. But you will see it for tastycakes, sugar-filled cereals, "fruit" snacks, etc. Even most grocery stores are set up to put the most unhealthy products on a shelf at a level where your small child will see it, point to it, and ask you to buy it. Why? Why do these companies not care what they are marketing to our growing children?
I am going to try to explore some of this with this blog going forward. I am also going to try to educate those who don't already know about the choices they make in the grocery store every day, and how it affects them directly - their health, their overall well being, and their environment. This also includes your choice to stop in at a drive-thru restaurant - one of the worst places you can eat for so many reasons, which I will hopefully show you as well through the reading I have done. I think it will become more obvious to you, and I hope that you will start to make better choices over time. I am passionate about this because to me, eating healthy, wholesome food is our right. It used to be commonplace. It sadly isn't anymore, and that is cause for much of the epidemic of cancer, heart disease, obesity, and other illnesses constantly on the rise in the U.S. Most other countries out there have seen the problems and started changing things years ago - we are very far behind. We should not have to be reliant on drugs to live our lives. If we choose wisely, we may not need them ever, at all. This to me, is very important with all of the side effects drugs can have to make you need to go on even more of them. It's a frightening cycle that I hope most of you never get caught up in.
So...I could go on and on about this, but I'll end here for now and hope that some of you at least continue to read and take into consideration my future posts. I can't tell you how vital it is that you do, and that you start taking up these issues with those around you. You could save someone's life, even your own. Sounds over the top maybe, but it's entirely true. Let the journey begin.

Hey, what's wrong with Tastykakes?? Just kidding of course :) You know you've taught me a lot over the last year about eating and I know it's certainly opened my eyes (even though I'm back on the cheese wagon. I know, boo!).
haha. I'm glad I have - that's really all I want. I'll be honest - if you had raw cheese - I wouldn't be opposed to that, as long as you aren't overdosing on it! :) Raw cheese actually has good bacteria in it (like probiotics) that are good for your stomach (and to keep you from getting sick). You can get it at Reading Terminal Market at the Fair Foods Farmstand. It's a little pricey, but so worth it. Yum!
