Five Most Dangerous Foods to Feed Your Child

I'm working on my next post, but in the meantime I figured I would post this short note from Dr. Fuhrman. He wrote the book "Eat to Live" and I would highly recommend reading it, along with his book "How to Disease Proof Your Child". He is one of a growing number of doctors out there that treats their patients with a healthy nutritious diet instead of with more medications to mask the ongoing problem. Keep in mind, that he is referring to the stuff most of us buy in the store, i.e. regular pasteurized dairy and meats from factory farms, and the overcooking of meat in general that tends to happen on the grill. Try to buy raw dairy (milk/cheese/butter) directly from the local farms in your area if you can (it's much easier than you imagine). And use it in moderation. We don't really have a nutritional need for milk in our diet, not even kids do. Try www.realmilk.com to look for places around you. If you buy grass-fed, free range meats and you don't overcook your meat, and watch carefully to ensure you don't char or burn it, the general consensus is that it's safe. You can also buy lunchmeats from companies that don't use nitrates in their meat from places like Whole Foods, Wegmans, and even ShopRite and Acme. If your store doesn't carry them, consider asking them to. As a consumer, you have a lot of weight you can pull, believe me. Note also that things like doughnuts can be made at home with much healthier ingredients (and still taste yummy!) if you find you really want to have them. Anyway, please see note below about the most dangerous foods you can feed your kids (and yourself, really).

The Five Most Dangerous Foods to Feed Your Child

1. Butter and Cheese - full of saturated fat and fat delivered chemical pollutants

2. Potato Chips and French Fries - rich in trans fat, salt, and carcinogenic acrylamides

3. Doughnuts and other trans fat - containing sweets - rich in trans fat, sugar, and other artificial substances

4. Sausages, hot dogs, and other luncheon meats - containg N-nitroso compounds that are potent carcinogens

5. Pickled, smoked, or barbequed meats - places you at risk of both stomach cancer and high blood pressure
